Walk in the Park - Practicing Loose Leash Walking
Practice Loose Leash Walking: Join Us at Paws N Play at a Park to walk your dog
Walking your canine companion should be a delightful experience for both of you. However, if your outings often feel like a struggle against pulling, lunging, barking, etc., it’s time for a change. At Paws N Play, we recognize the importance of teaching your dog proper leash manners. That's why we're excited to introduce our Walk in the Park class on Sunday mornings starting in June and ending in August of 2024!
Loose leash walking isn't just about convenience—it's about safety and communication. When your dog pulls on the leash, it can lead to discomfort and make walks stressful. Additionally, excessive pulling may indicate a lack of focus or obedience.
Paws N Play leads a unique walking experience called Walk in the Park. In this class we meet at a designated park and then walk together with up to 10 dogs as a pack. We practice several exercises as we are walking that reinforce your dog’s skills for STAY, LEAVE IT, LOOSE LEASH WALKING, ARCING, and BACKAWAY.
The Walk in the Park classes assume that you and your dog already know LEAVE IT, LOOSE LEASH WALKING FUNDAMENTALS, ARCING, and BACKAWAY. If you and your dog don’t have these skills yet, then you should consider taking a Loose Leash Walking 4 week class before starting the Walk in the Park classes. Also, you can read a previous blog article: Loose Leash Walking – A Refresher to get more acquainted with good walking practices.
Led by experienced trainers, our class will equip you with essential skills and techniques:
Practice Loose Leash Walking Basics: Practice leash handling techniques and decipher your dog's body language.
Positive Reinforcement: Discover how to reward desired behaviors and discourage pulling using positive reinforcement.
Building Focus: Foster a stronger bond by capturing and maintaining your dog's attention during walks.
Problem-Solving: Address common challenges like distractions and leash reactivity with effective strategies.
Benefits of Loose Leash Walking
Mastering loose leash walking offers benefits such as enhanced bonding, improved safety, and enjoyable walks for both you and your dog.
